The River - A superb Expressionist vintage Swedish still life painting of a tumbling river as it flows under a bridge and bends through the forest.

By listed Swedish artist Nils-Folke Knafve (1905 - 1996), Circa 1950. A modernist painter, Nils' work captures, in the expressionist style, nature at its most fluid. Nils was married to the celebrated textile designer, Ingrid Hellman-Knafve.

Signed mid-centre 'KNAFVE'. Oil on canvas, glued to board. Held in its original burnished gilt deep set yet simple frame. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, the frame is in good condition for its age with gesso marks which add a beautiful patina, the frame sets the picture off perfectly.

The painting looks just stunning in person, with deep, rich shades of blues, greens and pinks that bounce light and the bold expressionist style draws the eye. This picture will lift a wall hung on its own or as part of a collection.
