The Farmstead - A Vintage original Swedish landscape, painted in 1958 by Swedish artist Arne Kilsby (1895-1989).

Kilsby has captured sweeping meadows leading to a collection of farm buildings with blue tinted hills beyond with the exposed white texture of the canvas used to good effect . The artist has used the curves of the meadows in contrast to the almost Cubist angular trees and farm buildings. Painted En Plein Air, the artist has used confident strokes in oils in the post-impressionist style.

Arne Kilsby born 1895, to a farming family, chose to follow his artistic path and went onto study art at Ahletin's Painting School in 1919 and then at The Academy of fine Arts, 1920-1922. Kilsby travelled to Paris in 1922 to study under Othon Friesz. His travels and painting took him through France and Italy before returning home to Sweden at the end of the 1930s, where he was inspired by the landscapes and farms of his home country, often painting in a small format.

Oil on canvas laid on board, signed lower right, A. Kilsby '58. Perfect size for your gallery wall, leant on a mantlepiece/shelf, or small nook that needs uplifting.
