ON HOLD Spanish Impressionist Vintage Painting - Beach Scene Mid Century Original Oil on Canvas Dated 1944 Catalan Artist Domènec Carles y Rosich

ON HOLD An impressionist painting dated 1944, by the highly regarded Catalan artist Domènec Carles y Rosich (born 1888) of three figures and a dog sat on a sandy beach, with painted fishing boats against a deep blue sky and a glimpse of the sea.

Notes on the artist:
Domènec Carles (1888-1962) began his training, mainly self-taught, in Barcelona, to later spend time in Paris, between 1910 and 1913; there he attended the Baixas Academy, the Círculo Artístico de Sant Lluc and the free academies of Paris and participated in the Salon d'Automne in 1912.

A sketch portrait of Carles made by Picasso in 1921, is held in the permanent collection of the Picasso Museum in Barcelona indicating the height of his artistic circle.

Carles is represented in the Museums of Modern Art in Madrid and Barcelona, the National Museum in Catalonia as well as in the Museum of Fine Arts in Bilbao.
