An atmospheric moonlit scene of a French landscape by the Belgian artist Raymond Tassoul (born 1887). Oil on canvas in excellent condition.
A moonlit path along a riverbank before the river turns to take in a view of a scattering of houses on the hillside on the opposite bank. The artist has used layers of impasto to highlight a white and pink tinted moonlight glowing through the cloud scudded night sky.
Notes on the artist:
Raymond Tassoul (born 1887) was a Belgian painter of landscapes and still life florals; during his travels in France he painted French landscapes often in a moonlit scenes. He trained at the Academie de Bruxelles and exhibited from 1927.
