New York Original Oil Painting
New York Original Oil Painting
An impressive oil on canvas framed painting of Washington Square Park in Lower Manhattan, New York, on a winter’s day. Circa 1939 to early 1940s by the Swedish artist Ragnar Olson (1884-1949). Silver birch trees feature at the front of the composition, in the far right corner an artist stands at his easel, possibly the artist himself, and a path leads the eye to busy New Yorkers walking thorough the snowy park beneath the iconic Washington Arch and the residential building - 1 Fifth Avenue - which would have been built a decade before the artist painted this scene.
•Oil on canvas
•Circa 1939-early 1940s
•Framed size 30" x 35 1/2” (76cm x 90cm)
•Canvas in very good vintage condition; unlined, untouched.
•Held in a vintage soft toned gilt frame with age related marks and edge losses to the gilt - please see photos. Frame is structually stable. Goteburg frame makers label to reverse.
