Moving Rain
Moving Rain
Vintage Plein Air Oil on Board Sketch of weather moving over a bay by Swedish Impressionist artist Lars Boëthius 1903-1968.
The artist has worked quickly and confidently in oils to capture the fast changing weather over a bay with both rain, shadow and piercing sunlight hitting the rocky coastline and crystal water. In the foreground a solitary tree leans in beneath sea birds flying through the falling rain. An expertly observed coastal landscape.
Born in Stockholm the son of a sea captain, Boëthius studied at the Celeb Althins Art Academy from 1920 to 1921 followed by the National Art Academy in Stockholm from 1921 to 1923. He exhibited at the Swedish –French Art Gallery in Stockholm in the late 1920s and held solo exhibitions at the Galerie Moderne in Silkaborg, Denmark. Boëthius’s work is represented in the Modern Museum, Gotenburg Museum, the Art Academy of Stockholm and the museums of Malmö and Ystad.
