Gathering Wood - Antique Miniature Original Oil Painting - British Artist

An exquisite antique miniature oil painting by the listed artist - Sarah Louise Kilpack - British (1839-1909). The painting features two figures gathering wood at dusk, with the sun-setting in the distance, the artist combines the delicate nature of the leaves on the trees against the warmth of the sunset and the figures working together to create a romantic feel to this fine miniature painting.

Notes on the artist: Born in London’s Covent Garden in 1839, Sarah Louise Kilpack became a renowned artist during her lifetime; Kilpack’s finely painted scenes are still collected today - testament to her skill as an artist. As a young woman she became a King's Scholar at the Royal Academy of Music, under the tutelage of Kate Lode. She became an Associate of the academy and began a career as a pianist, performing in concerts and providing tuition. Income from her musical work enabled her to travel outside of London, where she would sketch which then became a successful paid career overtaking her music. Sarah Louise Kilpack exhibiting 119 landscapes at the Society of Women Artists between 1867 and 1909, and also at the British Institution.
Her works are exhibited in the Jersey Museum and Art Gallery, and in the Rona Cole Art Gallery on Guernsey. Paintings by Kilpack can also be found at Chepstow Museum, Hastings Museum and Art Gallery and the National Trust property Belton House.
